Red Kites

Winter is coming!

We are all settled back in after a lovely break. Year 5/6 have done a super job of helping the younger children settle in and have a great, hardworking approach to their learning.

We have looked at the process of making bread and baked our own in DT. We shall be suggesting hypotheses, using timelines and learning how to choose reliable sources of evidence in our topic work. We are excited about our English learning through our film literacy project and extending and consolidating our place value knowledge and problem solving skills in maths.

Please continue to practise your Space Mission Instant Recall Facts (SMIRFs) for 10 minutes a day, as you will become more proficient in your maths learning, once you have mastered your SMIRFs.

Further information about our learning this term can be found on the termly Curriculum Newsletter, which is on the About Us tab.

KS2 travelled back in time to WW2 where they experienced what life would have been like during and after the war. They saw air raid shelters, military tanks and saw machinery from the army. We walked through a make believe blitz attack that had the real air siren. We walked through a town center where there was different shops; a lot of them were rationing shops or make do and mend shops but we recognised the brands such as Bisto and Typoo. There was also a big room with loads of newspapers in so we could see what the headlines were during the war.

Visitors Bud and Doreen came to school to talk about their experiences during World War II. Bud was a Polish prisoner of war and shared his personal experiences and memories. It was really interesting to hear about their life experiences.
